duane pitre - live at roulette

ED09 is an evolving, long-tone composition by duane pitre. this recording features 21 of new york's finest string/wind performers accompanied by subtle layers of bowed electric guitar played by the composer.

the piece is based on a score consisting of set playing methods, technique restrictions, fixed pitch classes, hand signals and spontaneous conduction (aka real-time ‘mixing’)—resulting in slow-shifting harmonic movement over a long duration. ED09 is focused, yet fluid, minimal, yet dense—yielding a sound that is not unlike slow-motion chamber music.

the dream-like and floating textures of ED09 unfold patiently, shifting at a crawling pace. in the nucleus of this work, laconic sound worlds emerge and depart as one realizes that perhaps the journey has just arrived.
