cory allen - hearing is forgetting the name of the thing one hears
quiet design presents 'hearing is forgetting the name of the thing one hears'. in these five pieces, we find a new concept of minimalism. based on the philosophy of artist robert irwin, these works are a post-structuralist approach which focus on the invocation of pure aural sensation. what emerges are eloquent, sustaining fragments of sound, modulating in networks of melody, suspended in a system with no edges.
'hearing is forgetting...' explores the very root of electronic sound, organic motion, and minimalist composition. the unique, non-generative compositional rules allow the works to sustain an open, organic sound-field which remains present while being absent, and musical while in a mode of stasis. when listened attentively as much as passively, the album's title comes clear and with it, a mesmeric self-organizing synergy arises.
this cd is accompanied by a 12 page booklet of graphic design by the artist.
