Got plants growing close to your house? You’ll want to protect them from paint drips with a drop cloth or plastic sheeting. Plants that touch the exterior of your building will either need to be removed, trimmed, or tied back so that painters have room to do their job.

The J Stevens Painting website homepage makes use of bright colors to create the appropriate contrast necessary for branding. The sliding images help summarize as much information as possible on the homepage for a neat appearance. Scrolling down towards the middle, you get to see the company’s recent painting projects in a neatly arranged gallery before being offered a free estimate.
As far as materials go, you’ll need paint and primer. How much you need of each depends on the size of your project and the material of your siding. On average, 1 gallon of paint will cover up to 400 square feet, and 1 gallon of primer covers about 250 square feet. Assume you’ll need two coats of paint. .

When it comes to removing lead from your home, it’s important to have a professional on your side. While it is possible to paint over lead paint, it has to be done in a specific way to effectively cover the potentially dangerous lead paint. This process is known as encapsulation. Regular water-based or oil-based paints won’t work. Instead, you’ll need to use paints specifically called “encapsulants.” Other methods may be used to remove lead paint, and each one has a different price tag. The process can cost anywhere from $8,000 to $15,000.

Considering the factors outlined above, the average cost of painting can also vary from room to room.

On the labor side, a great contractor works with solid, experienced painters whose work he knows he can stand behind with an extended labor warranty. So, before you hire someone to paint your house, talk to them about their warranties and make sure you are covered.
I got several quotes from painters in the area to paint my house. One guy was almost a no show to the estimate (only came hours late after I called him) and took weeks to provide me with a quote, another guy was just too new and had no reviews or portfolio. Although House Painting Inc was more expensive than the others, I went with them because of the extensive information I was given at the estimate that he showed up to on time. I was shown lots of hand written reviews, before and after photos, current license and insurance. He took the time to go over every little spot of my house and provided me with a quote within a day.

After you’ve decided how you’re going to staff your business, it’s time to stock up on supplies. You’ll need brushes, rollers, painter’s tape, ladders, sanders, caulking tools, rags, cloths to avoid drips and more. You’ll obviously need to buy paint too.
Interior painting labor charges are usually calculated by the hour, with the additional cost of paint and materials.

I agree completely — never paint over wallpaper! My house is very old and the original owners had wallpaper (layer upon layer) in every room in the house — even the bathrooms. Then the last owner painted over the wallpaper. Yikes! What a mess. So glad most of it is gone but it was a chore. Thanks for the great tips to painting the house. Quality tools are key (and patience). Skylar Mitchell February 25, 2015

Wondering the price/bid that it would take to get this job finished. The home is around 1600 Sf with a garage with two stories and an unknown Sf. I don't want to empty the guys wallet, but also don't want to undercut myself if it turns out to be more work then originally planed. The painters themselves were so pleasant to work with. It's a family business, so the number of people working on any day varies, but at least 3 men were onsite at any time. They work quietly between 8:30 and 5, and they work through the weekend, even Sunday, to complete the job. Exterior painting on my 1600+ sq ft home took about 5 days.

The next option was using oil based primer. That stuff is not fun to work with. The fumes are not fun to work around (be sure to open windows!), and you can’t wash it off without using more chemicals. Fortunately somebody suggested we try bleaching the stains, which sounded a bit more feasible and manageable. So we tried it. Dawning coveralls and face masks, and armed with a pump garden sprayer filled with diluted bleach (mostly water with a couple capfuls of bleach), we attacked the stains. After a couple spray downs, the yellow started to disappear! For a couple of days, we misted the ceiling, waited a couple hours and repeated. Most stains were taken care of, the rest were dissolved enough to prime over.
