Practice by painting your own home. I did our bedroom, two bathrooms, a closet and the screened porch shortly after I discovered I could paint decently.

Imagine, for a nominal cost, completely changing the colors and look of your home! By simply painting your home with modern, updated hues, it will change so much that your friends and neighbors will do a double take when passing your house.

A fresh exterior house painting job does more than making your property look great; it adds a layer of protection from different elements such as weather damages, dust, and insects.
Proper sealing of windows and doors prevents moisture from getting in and under your home’s exterior and causing damage.

Before painting your house, make sure your surfaces are clean from dirt and dust. We know you’re eager to start painting, but removing these particles with a simple rag or tack cloth can help ensure a smooth surface, and keep the protection materials in place.
In addition, a painting estimate will include lead paint testing for houses built before 1978. According to EPA, the owner of such a building must hire appropriately licensed and certified painters, who follow lead-safe work practices that prevent lead contamination.
For example, you may have a simple rancher or a small apartment furnished with flea market finds, but with the right paint colors your modest abode can be turned into a designer showcase.

Kitchens are typically on the easier spectrum of painting costs since much of the wall space is taken up by cabinets, appliances, and backsplashes. Another great tutorial. You guys really put out some great and helpful posts. I was especially happy to see that you kept the popcorn ceiling! I feel like there is so much pressure to get rid of your popcorn ceiling if you have it, but it is so expensive especially if you have asbestos. It is really such a minor thing I don’t think it should get as much flak as it does. Besides, I am convinced if I wait long enough, the popcorn ceilings will make a comeback;)
The first step to finding a local painting contractor is going to your favorite search engine. With the overwhelming amount of information on the Internet, you’ll be able to find the best results directly on a search engine, rather than on a specific site or by looking in the classifieds.
Believe it or not, there is more that goes into house painting than putting paint on a wall. There is prep work, clean up, priming and other details that must be addressed, which should be included in your initial quote. Before you sign on the dotted line with a painting contractor, you should get a detailed quote that lists all the steps being taken and how much each service will cost, including: Power washing Caulking, sanding and priming Wood or stucco repair (professional contractors will know what needs to be done without you telling them) Details of products and application methods (great contractors know the right products for every job) Touch-ups and cleanup Is the quote printed on company letterhead? Does the sheet show the contractor’s license number? Does he use a local landline phone number (be wary if only a cell phone number is listed)? Tax ID number? Work guarantee and relevant product warranties?
I agree heavily with your decision to buy the higher end brushes. Choosing the quality tools over the cheap ones, even despite the price, is definitely the right way to go when undergoing a DIY painting project. The difference it provides is day and night! In my opinion, the money used to buy the top tier equipment saves you from any extra stress or headaches that poor quality brushes or tape can cause, so in the end it really is a win! All in all, this is a very well written and informative article, thank you for sharing your experience! MACKAY PRO PAINTERS July 14, 2020

Part of the reason I was hired by the house flipper was that I had been a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, and had spent a few days painting with them. That’s one way to get experience (and help out a good cause), but you can also do what my new employer told me to do: learn online.
