Most of the time, painting contractors will charge based on the square footage of the surface area they have to paint.
You can also go to one of Home Depot’s free workshops to learn how to paint and do related work. My wife and I once hired a painter who had learned in this way, and we paid her $35 per hour!

You’ve likely heard that the best time to paint your house is when the weather warms up—and that’s largely true. Optimal weather for paint is generally when temperatures are consistently warm and above 50 degrees F. While springtime in certain parts of the country may be warm enough, in many other parts, it’s not reliably temperate, especially come nighttime when temperatures may dip into freezing territory. Also keep in mind rainy season—which arrives for most areas in the spring.
Some painters use brown paper around the sides of all windows, folding the corners like a gift package, carefully creased edges. If plastic was not used in the centers of the window, and a gust of wind caught the paint spray a certain way, someone would be cleaning paint over spray off the windows! So best cover windows completely, what ever you want to use.
Our formula is simple, and we don’t take any shortcuts. The project may take a little longer but will yield much better and longer-lasting results. Here’s how we do it.

Awesome post! I just wanted to add a couple tips about cleaning brushes that might be helpful. If you’re painting and are coming back for second coats later the same day, you can put your brush in a ziplock bag to keep it from drying out while you’re taking a break. When cleaning your brushes, use Murphy Oil Soap, it really helps to get the paint off and is eco friendly. You can even soak brushes in it and clean them later on if you’re a giant procrastinator like I am 🙂 I love following your progress with this house and am so stoked to see the finished product! Cheers and have a great day! Alexandra February 25, 2015 Jill @ Champagne for Everyday February 25, 2015
