How do you know you’re getting a fair painting estimate? According to professional painters, painting an average Florida home can cost anywhere between $1,500 and $3,500. However, the best way to find out if a painting contractor has offered you a good estimate is to determine how much your project will cost. Since professionals price their work on a per square-foot basis, calculating the cost of materials and labor for your painting project is relatively easy.
grey & white with a pop of color. LOVE this look for the master bedroom. So much woodwork I'd have to paint, though...
.
On average homes we paint take 3.5 days. Small, 1 level homes can be quicker and take 2, depending on the condition they’re in. Large multi level homes with lots of trim (such as those in Westport or Brookside) can take 1 to 2 weeks.
Multiply the length by the width by the height of the room, then subtract windows, doors and cabinets as those will not require paint (l x w), add or subtract the ceilings, trim, and baseboards (dependent on if you want them painted).

Excellent service! Great Plains just painted the exterior of my house and they did an exceptional job. They were very thorough in prepping my house, which was built in 1925, and that was not an easy task. They had to deal with replacing wood damaged by wood rot, and overgrown ivy that had been on the house for years. Jose and his crew are hard workers and very conscientious. Erik explained everything in the estimate and kept in touch during the job to let me know if they ran into any unforeseen issues. Five stars! Would highly recommend!
If you're using more than one gallon of paint, mix the gallons together in a 5-gallon bucket and stir them together to ensure color uniformity.
How your paint dries depends on weather conditions and temperature at the time of application. That’s why you have to do the work when the weather is warm so that your paint job turns out perfectly.
Josh, thank you for the painstaking detail you use to describe what we painters go through. Especially on a renovation project. Most are not this big but laying out what DIY’ers would be looking at before they start is quite eye opening…we have a painting business and find it helpful when homeowners have outside resources to gather information on… keep up the good work! Vinyl and aluminum siding shouldn’t cost you any extra to have painted and may even save you some money if it is in good shape since you will be able to avoid scraping paint, rot, and other things.
Do yourself a favor and buy more than one, so you spend more time painting and less time moving your drop cloths.
There is now one section explaining how to take measurements before painting a house, and another dedicated to working with an interior decorator.
Other than hunger, the attraction of the food, or the ambiance – ask yourself, what inspired enough interest for you to check that particular restaurant out?
After starting a painting project and needing some help I came to this article. Thanks for the advice. Stephanie Hammington September 05, 2019
Initially, if pressure washing is not done, fresh new paint will trap dirt and grime underneath, impairing the paint's life and duration. In the painting industry, pressure cleaning is referred to as giving the painter a clean canvas to work with; comparing to Michelangelo.
Be prepared to “play” with a color wheel. We'll put one in your hands so you can see, right before your very eyes, how every color has a complementary “cousin.” Spending time with a color wheel can help you choose a color palette for your home painting project. Also known as a color scheme, it can guide many of your purchases, and not just for paint, but also for accessories and window treatments.
Part of the reason I was hired by the house flipper was that I had been a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, and had spent a few days painting with them. That’s one way to get experience (and help out a good cause), but you can also do what my new employer told me to do: learn online.
